About Our Robotics Team

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) was the brainchild of the well-known inventor and businessman, Dean Kamen, inventor of Segway. In the F.I.R.S.T. LEGO League, student teams are given two challenges. They must design an autonomous robot that gathers points by completing missions on a 4’ x 8’ playing field. They also research and develop a solution to a problem in keeping with this year’s theme--Nature’s Fury.

WHO WE ARE:
  • STEManiacs is a team that participates in F.I.R.S.T. LEGO League Robotics Competitions. Our name is based on the acronym STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.
  • Each year, our team of 9-14 years-olds, builds a LEGO robot to compete in regional competitions within our own city and elsewhere.
  • Competitions are exciting games in which team members demonstrate innovation, teamwork, competition, all while learning more about science and technology.
  • We are a community team, which means we do not have support from a school.  Parents are solely responsible for the large burden of supplies and registration fees. It might be prudent to leave out this amount.

WHY WE’RE SO SPECIAL:
  • We are a brand-new rookie team which means our students will have many years to learn and grow as a team.
  • We are training our young people in science and technology--critical fields in the 21st century.
  • What’s more, there are also opportunities for artists, computer programmers, game strategists, and more. Teamwork is what it’s all about. You would be amazed at what these students can do!

We invite you to be a sponsor of the FIRST LEGO League program in La Crescenta. Please consider being part of this exciting endeavor. We are happy to meet with you to provide more detailed information about the team and the key role that you can play. Your Sponsorship will allow more children to learn about robotics, science and engineering.
