Hour of Code 2013

Computer science provides a foundation for virtually any career - everybody can benefit from learning the basics.
But not everybody understands what it means to program or code.

Computer Science Education Week is December 9-15, 2013
to introduce children all over the world to computer science.

Code.org will provide a series of tutorials
that are easy to implement in the classroom.

Schools can participate in a variety of ways:
1. Show the code.org video ( 5 1/2 minutes) in the classroom and provide children with links to complete intro to programming tasks at home as part of homework.

2. Whole Group:  Teacher can work through a tutorial on the SmartBoard in front of the class as students raise their hands and participate by answering questions.

3. Computer Lab: Students can work through tutorials on their own during computer lab time with a short intro from the teacher.

4.  Unplugged:  No computer necessary.  Try this assignment with just a pencil, paper and disposable cups.  Children will learn to use 'robot' commands to give each other instructions when stacking cups.
